About Neikuppai Sundareswarar Temple

This sacred temple, estimated to be five hundred to one thousand years old, enshrines Lord Sundareswarar as its primary deity with Mother Soundaryanayaki as the divine consort. The temple holds exceptional significance due to a remarkable solar occurrence: the sun's rays directly illuminate the Shivalinga on the nineteenth, twentieth, and twenty-first days of Aavani (August-September), a phenomenon traditionally attributed to the Sun God's worship and penance. The temple complex includes subsidiary shrines dedicated to Lord Varadaraja and Lord Narasimha. According to local tradition, the name Neikuppai originates from an incident where Mother Ambika, manifesting as a cow, poured milk into a well that miraculously transformed into ghee, creating the Neikoopam or ghee well. Devotees visit seeking blessings for marriage, progeny, educational advancement, and relief from Naga doshas or serpent-related planetary afflictions.
