About Nohleshwar Temple
Nohleshwar Temple was constructed by Yuvarajadeva I of the Kalachuri dynasty under the patronage of his queen Nohala. The temple follows the Nagara architectural style and comprises a mukhamandapa (porch), sabhamandapa (hall), antarala (ante-chamber), and garbhagriya (sanctum). The sanctum houses the principal deity Shiva in the form of a Shivling and is crowned by a shikhara. By the late 19th century, the structure had fallen into severe disrepair, with its outer walls, gallery roof, and shikhara in ruins. British archaeologist Henry Cousens documented the temple's deteriorated state during his 1893 survey. Subsequently, the Archaeological Survey of India undertook restoration efforts to preserve this significant religious and architectural heritage site.
