About Nartiang Durga Temple

Nartiang Durga Temple stands as a major Shakta pilgrimage site in the West Jaintia Hills district of northeastern India. The temple is recognized as one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, making it among the holiest destinations for devotees of Shaktism. According to local Hindu tradition in the Jaintia region, the temple serves as the permanent abode of Goddess Durga. The deity is specifically venerated as Jayanti (or Jainteshwari), with the associated Bhairava worshipped as Kamadishwar. The shrine has endured for approximately six centuries and maintains strong connections to the historical Jaintia Kingdom. The temple experiences significant pilgrimage activity throughout the year, with particularly large gatherings during Durga Puja and the Navratri festivals.
