About Kumbheshwar Temple

Built during the reign of King Jayasthiti Malla in the 14th century, Kumbheshwar Temple stands as Patan's most ancient religious edifice, positioned approximately 200 meters north of Patan Durbar Square. The temple is distinguished as one of only two free-standing five-story temples in Nepal, the other being the celebrated Nyatapola Temple in Bhaktapur. Dedicated to Shiva, the temple's sanctity is affirmed by the prominent Nandi bull sculpture positioned before the entrance. The structure exemplifies medieval Newari architectural sophistication through its graceful proportions and elaborate wooden carvings, making it a significant cultural and spiritual landmark.
