About the temple

Koorainadu Punukeeswarar Temple is an ancient Shaivite shrine in Mayiladuthurai, Tamil Nadu, dedicated to Lord Punukeeswarar (Shiva) and Goddess Santhanayaki. According to legend, a devoted civet cat worshipped a self-manifested Shiva Lingam with fragrant civet perfume and vilva leaves, earning the deity its distinctive name. The shrine draws devotees through the day for darshan and aarti, with the atmosphere reaching its peak during the evening rituals and on festival days when special pujas are performed.
