Keezhtali Mahadeva Temple

The temple's physical history reflects the passage of centuries. Originally situated on 1.36 acres, much of the original land was lost over time. By the early 2000s, only a small hillock remained—the remnants of the ancient sanctum and its Shivalingam. In 2007, the temple trust acquired approximately 36 cents of additional land surrounding this core site, enabling reconstruction efforts to begin.

A major renovation phase commenced in February 2012, with its foundation stone laid by Jagadguru Sree Sree Jayendra Saraswati Swamigal of Kanchi Kamakoti Peedom in November 2011. By May 2014, the subsidiary shrines and associated structures had been completed and consecrated. The temple also constructed an Annadhana Hall for community meals and quarters for temple staff. This reconstruction has restored the temple as an active center of worship while preserving its ancient spiritual identity.

Daily Worship and Rituals

The temple observes three daily worship periods. Morning darshan (Usha) begins at 05:30 and continues until 10:00, a time traditionally associated with dawn worship and favored by many devotees. A noon period opens from 12:00 to 14:00. Evening darshan (Athazha) is available from 17:30 to 19:30. The temple is notably the first to conduct Saivagama Padi Pooja, a specialized ritual performed on 36 steps inscribed with 36 Shiva Sookthams and verses associated with Parvathi Devi. Festivals and Observances

The temple attracts particular devotional attention during Maha Shivaratri, the major festival honoring Shiva, and during Pradosham, the twilight period observed on specific lunar dates when Shiva is traditionally worshipped.
