About Chelamattom Shree Krishna Swami Temple
Located in Chelamattom village near Perumbavoor in Kunnathunadu taluk, Ernakulam district, this temple is revered as Dakshina Kasi due to its significance in performing ancestral rites and Bali Tharpanam rituals. According to legend, an idol of Lord Krishna was discovered floating in the Periyar River in a chest and was initially enshrined in a temporary shrine by the Veliyamkol Mana family before a permanent temple was constructed. The temple complex houses three principal deities representing avatars of Lord Mahavishnu: Lord Krishna as the main deity, along with Lord Narasimha and Lord Vamana.
