Situated in the Rahika region of Madhubani District, Bihar, Kapileshwar Temple stands as one of the district's most significant Shiva sanctuaries. According to tradition, the sage Kapila himself placed the Shiva Linga at this site, establishing its spiritual foundation. The temple complex features a substantial boundary wall enclosing the main Lord Shiva temple at its center, alongside subsidiary shrines dedicated to Parvati and Hanuman. A large ceremonial pond was constructed with assistance from the Raj Darbhanga, serving as the water source for Jalabhishek (ritual bathing) of the Shiva Linga. The temple attracts pilgrims from across Bihar during the monsoon month of Shrawan, when elaborate water ablution ceremonies take place. The surrounding villages of Kharaua, Rampur, and Jagat form the local community context, and the temple premises contain numerous historical sculptures reflecting centuries of devotional practice.
