This temple in Dariapur, Deshapran block, Purba Medinipur district, holds cultural significance as the legendary setting of Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay's literary masterpiece Kapalkundala. The author, inspired during his tenure as Deputy Magistrate in the Contai subdivision, set his novel in the forests surrounding the temple's location. Local tradition associates the shrine with the fictional Tantric rituals depicted in the work, making it a site of both religious and literary importance. The West Bengal Heritage Commission recognized the temple as a heritage site on 28 February 2006 for its cultural and historical value.
