About Jambukaranyesvarar Temple, Kundalur
Located in Tiruvarur district of Tamil Nadu, Jambukaranyesvarar Temple enshrines the presiding deity Shiva in the form of a lingam known as Jambukaranyesvarar, with the goddess Anandavalli also worshipped here. The temple holds significance as one of the Vaippu Sthalams sung by the revered Nayanar saint Appar. According to local tradition, the site derives its name Kundalur from the abundance of palm trees once found there, and it is also associated with the worship of Sita and the sage Roma Maharishi. The temple features Dravidian architecture and is notable for housing a sacred peacock called Deva Mayil, believed to date from the pre-Sura Samhaaram period. Additionally, the shrine is recognized as a Muruga temple, with the deity praised in Thiruppugazh by the saint Arunagirinathar. The temple structure includes a prakara with shrines to Dakshinamurthy, Lingodbhava, Muruga, Mahalakshmi, Durga, and Chandikesvarar, along with sacred temple tanks named Sita Tirtha and Kumara Tirtha.
