Sri Purushothaman Perumal Temple

The temple is associated with a theertham, or sacred water source, called Pongi Karai Theertham. According to temple tradition, a sage who regularly brought water from the Ganges in Kasi for the Lord's ritual bathing once found himself unable to make the journey. When he stood troubled at this impasse, Lord Perumal appeared and called forth the Ganges. A spring emerged at that spot on the Tambiraparani's bank. The name Pongi Karai Theertham derives from Tamil words meaning "sprang" and "river bank," commemorating this miraculous origin. Devotees consider this water sacred for ritual purposes.

Worship and Daily Observance

The temple follows the Pancharatra system of worship, a structured liturgical tradition within Vaishnavism. The Lord graces devotees in a seated posture within the sanctum. The temple is open for darshan (viewing of the deity) during two periods each day: from 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in the morning, and from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the evening.
