About Aranmula Parthasarathy Temple

Located in Aranmula village on the southern bank of the Pamba River, the Aranmula Parthasarathy Temple is constructed in the traditional Kerala architectural style and features intricate wood carvings depicting stories from the Ramayana and Mahabharata. The temple walls are adorned with 18th-century paintings. As one of the 108 Divya Desams revered by the Alvar saints, it holds significant spiritual importance. According to tradition, the temple was built by the Pandava prince Arjuna and is one of five ancient shrines in Kerala associated with the Mahabharata. The temple plays a crucial role in the annual Thiruvabharanam procession, carrying the sacred jewels of Ayyappan en route to Sabarimala, and also stores the Thanka Anki, Ayyappan's golden attire donated by the king of Travancore. The temple is particularly famous for the annual Aranmula Vallamkali, a spectacular boat race featuring traditional snake boats, and the Vallasadya ritual feast.
