About Thiruvanthipuram temple

This ancient temple, glorified in the Nalayira Divya Prabandham by Alvar saints between the 6th–9th centuries CE, stands as a significant pilgrimage destination in Tamil Nadu. While the presiding deities are Devanatha and Hemabhujavalli, the temple holds special distinction for its shrine dedicated to Hayagriva, the ninth avatar of Vishnu and the divine embodiment of knowledge. The temple's architectural design follows classical Dravidian principles and incorporates legendary elements including a well constructed by Adiseshan and a river brought by Garuda. The surrounding landscape features hills associated with Brahma's penance and portions of the medicinal mountain brought by Hanuman.
