About Thiruvaloor Mahadeva temple
This sacred Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, worshipped as Mahadeva, stands in a peaceful village setting and is counted among Kerala's most significant Shiva temples. The main deity faces east in Rowdra Bhava without Parvathi, and the idol is believed to be an Agni Pratishta with Shiva's third eye open. A pond positioned east of the temple in alignment with the idol is said to mitigate the harmful effects of the fire the idol emits. The temple holds deep mythological significance, connected to the Ramayana as the place where Jatayu's tail fell after his confrontation with Ravana. According to legend, the evening Deeparadhana Darshan is considered highly auspicious, believed to protect devotees from death that day. The temple features sub-shrines including Keezhanikavu with idols of Vishnu, Bhagavati, and Nagas, and a rare Rudraksha tree.
