Within the temple complex stands a shrine dedicated to the Navagrahas—the nine celestial bodies in Hindu cosmology: the Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu, and Ketu. Each planet has its own Linga installed in the temple. According to local legend, after a great deluge, the nine planets themselves installed individual Lingas on the banks of the Agashya River and performed penance for a thousand years, after which Lord Shiva established the cosmic order.
