Situated near Chauri Chaura on the Gorakhpur–Deoria road, Tarkulha Devi Temple stands as one of the most revered Shakti temples in Eastern Uttar Pradesh. The temple houses the main idol of Maa Tarkulha Devi, adorned with red cloth and garlands, symbolizing the goddess's fierce yet protective nature. According to local tradition, the freedom fighter Babu Bandhu Singh of Dumari Riyasat was a devoted worshipper who sought blessings before his martyrdom, and the temple stands near his cremation site, embodying both spiritual devotion and patriotic significance. During Navratri festivals, thousands of pilgrims visit to witness the grand Maha Aarti and participate in sacred rituals including animal sacrifice (Bali), traditions maintained for centuries. Devotees believe that prayers here fulfill wishes and remove life obstacles.
