This historically significant Dravidian-style temple was constructed between 892–922 CE under the patronage of Eastern Chalukya king Chalukya Bhima I. The shrine is centrally protected as a monument of national importance and stands as one of the five sacred Pancharama Kshetras dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple features a remarkable 14-foot-high white crystal Shiva Linga installed across two floors, traditionally believed to have been consecrated by Kumara Swamy (Karthikeya), from whom the temple derives its name. The architecture reflects classical Dravidian design with intricate elements, and the temple was later reconstructed between 1340–1466 by the Munsunuri Nayaks using Kakatiya architectural styles. The shrine draws devotees throughout the day for darshan and aarti, with the atmosphere intensifying during evening rituals and festival celebrations when special pujas are performed.
