About Kotasattemma Temple, Nidadavolu

Located in Timmarajupalem village within Nidadavole Mandal of West Godavari District, Kotasattemma Temple holds centuries of spiritual significance. Historical records indicate the shrine was originally constructed during the Chalukya dynasty under King Veerabhadra, spouse of Rani Rudrama Devi, when Nidadavolu served as a fortified capital. The goddess is credited with protecting the fort during numerous conflicts. Following the decline of the Kakatiya and subsequent Reddi dynasties, natural calamities and floods submerged the temple and its deity statue for several centuries. In 1934, a local farmer named Devulapalli Ramamurthy Sastry accidentally unearthed the idol while plowing his fields. Following a divine vision, he constructed the present temple with community support. The ten-foot-tall idol depicts the goddess holding a conch and dice, adorned with Abhaya Mudra and sacred thread. The temple has evolved into a major religious center, attracting devotees from Andhra Pradesh and neighboring states, particularly on Sundays and Tuesdays. Devotees attribute fulfillment of wishes, marriages of unmarried youth, and blessings of children to the goddess's grace. Since 1982, the Endowments Department has administered the temple, which now features accommodation facilities, shopping complexes, and multiple mandapams.
