About Somnath

The temple opens daily at 6:00 AM and remains accessible until 9:30 PM, allowing devotees flexibility in timing their visit. Three formal aartis—ritual offerings of light and prayer—structure the day: at 7:00 AM in the morning, at noon, and at 7:00 PM in the evening. During these aarti times, darshan (viewing of the deity) pauses briefly as the priests conduct their ceremonies. Entry to the temple is free for all visitors.

For a peaceful darshan experience with fewer crowds, arrive in the early morning hours after 6:00 AM. Weekdays generally see lighter visitor numbers than weekends. The temple follows queue systems during regular periods, with regulated entry implemented during peak times to manage the flow of devotees safely.

Visitor Conduct and Practical Guidelines

Modest and respectful dress is expected within the temple premises. Mobile phones, cameras, smartwatches, and other electronic recording devices are strictly prohibited inside the temple to maintain the sanctity of worship and protect the privacy of devotees. Smoking is not permitted anywhere within the temple vicinity. Bags and personal belongings beyond a permitted size should be stored in the locker facilities available near the entrance.

All visitors must pass through security checks before entering. Maintain silence and decorum while inside the temple, as this is an active place of worship. The temple staff and security personnel are present to assist visitors and ensure a safe, respectful environment for all.

The Light and Sound Show

After completing your evening darshan, you have the option to attend the Somnath Light and Sound Show, held on the rear wall of the temple complex facing the Arabian Sea. This ticketed presentation begins around 8:00 PM, following the evening aarti, and runs for approximately 45 to 60 minutes. The show traces the spiritual and historical journey of the temple, offering visitors a reflective conclusion to their visit while overlooking the ocean.

The Shree Somnath Trust manages guest house accommodations and various services for pilgrims. Room bookings, pooja registrations, and donations should be made exclusively through the official website somnath.org or in person at the Central Booking Office located at the temple or at the Trust's Ahmedabad office.
