About Shri Durgiana Mandir
Constructed in 1921, Durgiana Temple stands as one of Amritsar's most revered spiritual landmarks, rising from the center of a sacred tank with a design that blends Sikh architectural elements including canopies and a central dome with traditional Hindu temple aesthetics. The temple was proposed by Gur Shai Mal Kapoor and its foundation stone was laid by Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, a prominent Indian reformer. The main deity is Goddess Durga, flanked by murtis of Lakshmi and Vishnu within a serene sarovar. The temple complex houses several smaller shrines including Bara Hanuman Mandir and Mata Sitla Mandir, and features a distinctive resting statue of Lord Hanuman in the courtyard. The temple underwent significant renovations in 2013 to expand worship areas and facilities. It serves as a major pilgrimage destination during Dussehra, Janmashtami, and Diwali, and maintains a Langar Bhawan providing daily meals to devotees and the community.
