About Shree Vishnumurthy Temple

Situated in the town of Kulai near Surathkal, this temple is dedicated to Shree Vishnumurthy, a form of Lord Vishnu. The shrine was discovered in a ruined state within the forest around 1911 by local archeologist and historian Venkatramana Hebbar. The temple features traditional Vedic Hindu architecture with a sanctum sanctorum facing east, housing the presiding deity along with representations of Lord Maheshwar, Lord Ganapati, and Devi Durga. The idol of Lord Vishnumurthy is carved in black stone and depicted in standing posture with four hands holding the Shanka, Chakra, Gada, and Padma. Following its discovery, the temple has undergone repeated renovations and maintains an active worship schedule with regular festival celebrations.
