This temple enshrines Shiva in the form of Rajacholeesvarar, represented by a lingam in the garbhagriha, with the goddess Abirami as the consort. The shrine holds historical significance as the capital city of Saluva Thirumalairyan, a representative of the Vijayanagara kings during the 15th century. The temple features sculptures of the 63 Nayanmars in its prakara, including the revered Manikkavacakar. Notable architectural elements include a distinctive Chandiesvarar sculpture crafted from green stone and Dvarapalas flanking the main shrine. Additional shrines within the complex are dedicated to Vinayaka, Subramania, Gajalakshmi, Navagraha, Marutalinga, Bairava, and Surya. The temple grounds are adorned with Nagalinga pushpa trees.
