About Radhakanta Temple, Chetla
This heritage temple exemplifies traditional nabaratna (nine-pinnacled) Bengal architectural style and houses a black-stone idol of Radhakanta alongside astadhatu idols of Radha and Lakshmi-Narayan. Originally featuring a nat-mandir and rasmancha used during festivals, the temple once anchored a flourishing riverside cultural landscape of ghats, pathways, and zamindari estates. Despite modern urbanization surrounding Kolkata, the Radhakanta Temple remains a significant architectural reminder of the city's eighteenth and nineteenth-century religious heritage and the social-cultural influence of the Mondal family. The temple is also noted as an inspiration for the more famous Dakshineswar Kali Temple.
