About the temple
Kalighat Kali Temple in Kolkata is one of India's 51 Shakti Pithas, dedicated to the goddess Kali. The present structure was completed in 1809 after eleven years of construction initiated by the Sabarna Roy Choudhury family. The shrine draws devotees through the day for darshan and aarti, with the atmosphere reaching its peak during the evening rituals and on festival days when special pujas are performed.
