About Radha Krishna Temple Shyama Ashram

Founded around three decades before the source's writing by Her Holiness Maa Shyama Devi, a deeply pious woman who had already established several temples in India, the Radha Krishna Temple opened its doors in Balham in 1977. The temple began in a vacant shop on Balham High Road, with an adjacent shop later converted to expand the sacred space. Her Holiness Maa Shyama Devi, who had previously opened the first temple in Britain in Leicester in 1967, passed away in 1999. Today, the temple continues under the stewardship of three women managers, including the founder's daughter, who is regarded as the mother of the temple. The temple serves the local Hindu community with regular worship and activities including Hanuman Chalisa recitations held every Saturday morning.
