About Punkunnam Seetha Ramaswamy Temple
Established on June 11, 1899, by Diwan Bahadur T. R. Ramachandra Iyer, a justice in the Cochin Court, the Sree Seetharamaswamy Temple stands in the Pushpagiri agraharam of Punkunnam, positioned six degrees northwest of the Vadakkunnathan Temple. The sanctum enshrines Lord Seetharaman facing west, accompanied by idols of Hanuman, Lakshmana, Ganapati, Parvati, Shiva, and Subrahmanya. The temple's architectural distinction lies in its uncommon Gajaprashta spire, a feature rarely seen in Kerala temple design. The complex also houses a separate Shiva temple and features the Navagraha and Dharmashasta shrines. A notable 55-foot tall Hanuman statue, unveiled by India's Prime Minister on April 25, 2023, stands within the premises and is accompanied by a laser light show presented on weekend evenings.
