Kuttankulangara Sri Krishna Temple
About Kuttankulangara Sri Krishna Temple
Located 500 meters from Punkunnam Railway Station in Thrissur district, Kerala, this ancient temple exemplifies traditional Kerala architectural style with its square sanctum and sloping tiled roof. The presiding deity is Sri Krishna worshipped as Santanagopala Murthy, with sub-shrines dedicated to Ganesha, Devi (Bhagavathy), and Nagarajavu. The temple is particularly significant for couples seeking blessings of children and family prosperity. A distinctive ritual called Pannivetta is performed during the annual Makaram Utsavam festival in January–February, wherein a symbolic pig effigy is ceremonially hunted and shot with an arrow at the base of the sacred Banyan tree, believed to ward off negativity and purify the land. Daily worship includes traditional Kerala-style pujas with offerings of flattened rice and flowers for health and longevity.
