About Piramanoor Kailasha Nathar Temple

This ancient Shiva temple dedicated to Lord Kailasha Nathar with consort Kamatchi Ambikai stands in Piramanoor village, Tiruppuvanam Taluk, Sivaganga district. According to temple tradition, the site derives its name from Lord Brahma's worship of a Shiva Linga brought from Kailasa Mountain, earning the designation Piramanoor (Brahman + Oor). The temple exhibits Pandian architectural style and contains marble sculptures and inscriptions in Grantha script documenting historical contributions to temple maintenance. A notable sculptural element depicts Sage Agasthya worshipping Lord Shiva. The temple's most distinctive feature occurs during the first week of Tamil Chithirai month in April, when solar rays directly illuminate the main deity. Currently under renovation, the structure shows signs of age with damaged wooden doors, pillars, and peetas, though daily pujas continue to be performed by villagers.
