The shrine was established in the early 18th century, with historical records suggesting its foundation between 1700 and 1725, making it a temple of over three centuries of antiquity. The temple follows the Vaikhanasa Agama methodology for its worship rituals and ceremonies. Situated approximately 2 kilometers from Chennai Central Railway Station and about 1 kilometer from Purasawakkam, the temple is easily accessible by public transportation from various points including Chennai Parrimedu, Koyambedu bus station, and Mint Vallalar Nagar bus station.
