This sacred Vaishnavite shrine occupies a unique position as one of the few Divya Desams housed within a major Shiva temple. The presiding deity is Lord Nilathingal Thundathan Perumal, also known as Chandrasooda Perumal, accompanied by Goddess Nilathingal Thunda Nayagi. According to temple lore, the deity earned this name when Lord Vishnu cooled the flames engulfing Goddess Parvati's penance beneath the sacred mango tree using cooling moonlight rays from Lord Shiva's head. The shrine is situated in the northeastern section of the Ekambareswarar Temple complex with its sanctum crowned by the Purusha Suktha Vimanam. Praised by Thirumangai Alwar in the Nalayira Divya Prabandham, the temple draws devotees seeking emotional peace, relief from illness, and divine protection, with Vaikunta Ekadasi serving as its principal festival.
