About Nalpathaneeswaram Sree Mahadeva Temple

Located in Panavally village of Cherthala taluk in Alappuzha district, this revered temple is said to have been consecrated by Sage Khara as his 48th installation, giving the place its name. According to local tradition, the Pandavas spent time here during their exile, and four stones preserved at the temple mark their ancient hearth. The presiding deity, Lord Shiva in Kiratha Bhava form, is believed to have appeared in a dream to a devoted Brahmin priest, instructing him to perform rituals in this manifestation. The temple complex houses sub-deities including Ganapathy and Varahamurthy within the sanctum, while Ayyappan, Durga Devi in multiple forms, Nagaraja, Nagayaksh, and Brahmarakshass are enshrined outside. The temple follows traditional Kerala architectural style and serves as a significant spiritual center, attracting devotees seeking courage, protection, and divine blessings.
