About Mandir Ananda
Founded in 1995 by leading members of the Bengali community in New Jersey, Ananda Mandir incorporated as a non-profit organization and purchased a 7.5-acre property in Somerset in December 1997. The temple construction was completed in 2003 following a groundbreaking ceremony with Bhumi Puja on December 7, 2002. Between 2015 and 2016, a major expansion project added a classical Bengali temple façade and multi-functional cultural center at a cost exceeding $4 million. The shrine serves as both a place of worship and a cultural hub, hosting daily darshan and aarti rituals, with special significance during Kali Puja celebrations that follow traditional Bengali almanac practices. The temple also offers educational programs including Bengali language classes, dance and music instruction, and various community services.
