About the temple

Mallikesvarar Temple is a historic Hindu shrine in George Town, Chennai, among the earliest temples constructed in the British settlement of Madrasapatnam. Originally established in 1646 CE, the temple was rebuilt in 1700 CE at its current Sowcarpet location after the original structure was demolished by the British. The shrine draws devotees through the day for darshan and aarti, with the atmosphere reaching its peak during the evening rituals and on festival days when special pujas are performed.
