About Kollangudi Vettudaiyar Kaliamman Temple

Located in Ariyakurichi village, Kollangudi, in Sivaganga district of Tamil Nadu, this ancient temple houses the primary deity Vettudaiyar Kali depicted in a powerful seated form with her right leg folded and left leg extended, holding a sword, Kedayam (prevention disc), bow and arrow. The goddess's fierce countenance serves as a warning against evil forces. The temple also features Sri Aiyanar in a sitting posture opposite Mother Kali, along with subsidiary shrines dedicated to Sri Anjaneya, Meenakshi Sundareswarar, Solaimalai Vishnu, Karuppusamy, Veerappasamy, Muniappasami, Pechi Amman, Soolattukali, and Lord Bhairava. The temple contains a sacred tank whose circumambulation is believed to provide relief from devotees' problems. Worshippers traditionally approach Mother Kali for justice against those who have committed crimes, for protection from poverty and illness, and for reunion with separated loved ones. The temple is estimated to be 500-1000 years old, with the Eecha tree (palm family) serving as the presiding tree.
