Kodumudi Magudeswarar temple

The temple observes two major festivals annually. Maha Shivaratri, celebrated in February or March, draws devotees to honour Shiva through night-long vigils and special worship. Karthigai Deepam, observed in November or December, marks another significant occasion in the Shaiva calendar. On these festival days, darshan can extend to one or two hours as crowds gather for worship.

Pradosham days—occurring twice each lunar month on the 13th day of each fortnight—hold particular importance for Shiva temples. On these occasions, the temple maintains continuous access to the sanctum, allowing uninterrupted worship throughout the day.

The Sacred Geography

The Kaveri River flows past the temple's location, its waters moving southward from this point toward the Chola territories to the east. The sage Agastya is associated with this temple in local tradition. According to the temple's account, Agastya received a marriage blessing at this site, and the deity's consort appears on Shiva's right side in the form of a bride. The temple also preserves rock sculptures of Agastya on the opposite bank of the Kaveri, marking the legendary connection between the sage and this sacred place.
