This ancient shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva stands as a principal temple among the Kongu region's seven sacred sites. The temple has a documented history spanning from the Chola dynasty, when King Rajendra Chola granted land to its maintenance. The presiding deity, Kalyana Pasupatheeswara, is worshipped in self-manifested form. The temple also houses the goddesses Alangaravalli and Soundranayaki. According to temple lore, the deity accommodated the sage Karuvoorar on his left side, resulting in the unique iconography of the deity appearing in a tilted posture. The shrine has drawn consistent devotion from successive dynasties including the Kongu Cholas, Kongu Pandyas, and Vijayanagar rulers. The temple is believed to grant relief from marriage obstacles and blessings of progeny to devotees.
