The Khandoba Temple in Beed represents a layered spiritual heritage spanning centuries. The outer structure, estimated at approximately 700 years old, displays the Haṁsa emblem symbolizing Vedāntic philosophy and reflects architectural features reminiscent of early Chalukyan styles found in regions like Badami. The temple's inner sanctum contains a compact garbhagṛha enshrining a rare iconographic form of Śiva as Khandoba, depicted mounted on a horse alongside Devī Pārvatī, accompanied by two sacred Pādukās. Local tradition preserves an older sacred layer associated with Ādi Śaṅkarācārya's visit, when worship centered on Śrī Narasiṁha; a sacred stone discovered through divine vision remains respectfully preserved within the complex. An annual festival features a devotee breaking a chain symbolizing saṁsāra-bandhana (worldly bondage) and donning the Pādukās to approach the deity in devotional fervor, culminating in mahāmaṅgalārati. The temple also contains a south-facing Gaṇapati idol and a Śrīcakra pratiṣṭhā, indicating integration of Śrīvidyā-based worship within its Vedānta-oriented framework.
