Bengaluru, Est. consecrated by Adi Shankaracharya

About Kalikamba Temple

The temple opens for darshan in two sessions: mornings from 7:30 to 13:00 and evenings from 17:30 to 19:30. These hours accommodate both early risers and those visiting after work. Visitors should confirm timings before travelling, as festival observances may alter the regular schedule. The temple office can be reached at +91-08265-252525 for queries about darshan times or special occasions.

Several forms of ritual service are available to devotees who wish to deepen their engagement with the goddess. These include Panchamrita Abhishekha, in which the deity is ritually bathed with five sacred substances; Archana performed with various sacred hymns such as the Ashtothara (108 names), Trishati (30 names), and Sahasranama (1,000 names); recitation of the Durga Saptashati, a classical devotional text of 700 verses; and Parayana, continuous recitation of sacred texts. Availability of specific services should be confirmed directly with the temple.

The Annual Festival

The most significant observance occurs during Margashirsha Poornima, the full moon day falling in November or December. On this occasion, celebrations unfold on a grand scale, drawing devotees from across the region. The Jagadguru, the head of the Sringeri Peetham, performs special worship as part of the festivities. The observance includes Shata Chandi Homa, a fire ritual in which sacred verses invoking the goddess are chanted, and Deepotsava, a festival of lights in which numerous oil lamps illuminate the shrine. These rituals represent an annual renewal of the goddess's protective presence over Sringeri.

Visiting Information and Etiquette

The temple is located at Sringeri Rural, Chikkamagaluru District, Karnataka 577139, at coordinates 12.9495°N, 77.6128°E. Visitors should dress modestly, covering shoulders and knees, as is customary in Hindu temples. Footwear is removed before entering the sanctum. Photography policies vary; it is respectful to seek permission before photographing the deity or interior spaces.

The shrine forms part of the larger Sringeri Sharada Peetham complex, which maintains facilities for pilgrims. Accommodation and dining arrangements can be arranged through the Peetham's administrative office. The best time to visit for a complete experience of the temple's spiritual life is during Margashirsha Poornima, though the shrine welcomes visitors throughout the year. Early morning or evening visits allow you to avoid the daytime heat of the region.
