About Iranikulam Mahadeva Temple
Located in Iranikulam, Mala, Thrissur district, this venerable temple features two primary shrines: the southern Thekkedathappan housing the Sadasivalingam installed by Parasurama, and the northern Vadakkedathappan containing Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, and Lord Subramanya on a single pedestal. The temple showcases traditional Kerala architectural style with a distinctive double-storied circular sanctum and intricate sculptural details. Beyond the main deities, the complex houses numerous subsidiary shrines including Maha Ganapathi, Nandikeswaran, Karottamma, and Sree Dharma Sastha. The temple endured significant damage during the Mysore invasions of 1789 and was subsequently restored. Stone inscriptions within document historical records and property donations, underscoring its cultural and spiritual significance across centuries.
