About Idangazhi Nayanar Temple, Kodumbalur
Located in Kodumbalur village in Pudukottai district, Tamil Nadu, this temple is dedicated to Idangazhi Nayanar, an 8th-century chieftain and ardent Shiva devotee who was elevated to Nayanar status for his compassionate act of offering his entire royal granary to a fellow devotee engaged in feeding Shiva worshippers. The temple features a sanctum housing an idol of Idangazhi Nayanar, with sub-shrines for Vinayaka and Murugan at the entrance. A colossal Nandi idol in a modern mandapa stands opposite the main shrine, and a separate Shiva shrine with its own Nandi is located on the southern side of the temple premises. The temple follows Sangama style worship and remains a simple yet spiritually significant structure in Kodumbalur, which served as the capital of Ko-Nadu from the 8th century.
