About Gosagaresvar Siva Temple

This Kalinga-style temple, constructed from coarse-grained sandstone using dry masonry techniques, dates to the 14th-15th centuries during the Ganga rule. The temple complex contains three shrines dedicated to Shiva and is organized as a precinct-type structure with Pidha deul typology. The main vimana measures 3.36 meters in height and follows the pancharatha architectural pattern characteristic of Odishan temples. According to local tradition, Lord Shiva bathed in the temple's sacred pond to purify himself after an accidental transgression, making it a pilgrimage site for those seeking absolution. The temple remains actively used and well-maintained by local custodians, with regular observance of religious ceremonies including Sivaratri and Sankranti festivals.
