About Dhumbada Mata Temple

Situated approximately 4.3 km from Bhadrajun and 6.4 km from Rama in the Dhumbada hills of the Aravalli mountain range, this temple enshrines Goddess Subhadra, sister of Lord Krishna and Balarama. According to local tradition, the temple marks the location where Arjuna, a Pandava prince, married Subhadra with Krishna's blessing under the Gandharva rite. The event is believed to have given rise to the name of the nearby town Bhadrajun, derived from 'Bhadra' (Subhadra) and 'Arjun.' The goddess is venerated locally as Bhadrā, Chodhra, and Jogmaya, and holds a place in the Jagannath triad worship. Though archaeological evidence remains limited, oral traditions and the region's Vedic heritage underscore the temple's antiquity and its historical importance as a waypoint on routes connecting Dwarka and Hastinapur during the Mahabharata era.
