Located near Aruvayi in Pazhanji, Kunnamkulam, this historic temple enshrines Bhagavathi, the revered mother Goddess and one of Kerala's most venerated deities. According to local tradition, the temple originated when a devoted Iyer discovered a sacred spot marked by an umbrella that became mysteriously fixed to the ground during his pilgrimage journey. A Deva Prashna ritual confirmed the divine presence, leading to the establishment of the temple and consecration of the Goddess's idol at that location. The name Chiravarambathukavu derives from the grove and varambu (umbrella) associated with this origin story. The temple reflects traditional Kerala architectural style and serves as a significant spiritual center for the community. It hosts multiple festivals including the prominent Pooram Vela celebrated on the second Sunday of Kumbha month (February), which draws devotees from across the region with participation from over 35 committees and more than 75 elephants. The Pathamudayam Ulsavam festival features traditional art forms including Kalamezhuthu (intricate floor drawings with colored powders) and Pattu (devotional songs), creating a vibrant spiritual and cultural atmosphere.
