About Cheruvally Devi Temple

Located in the village of Cheruvally within Kanjirappally taluk of Kottayam district, this venerable temple stands as a spiritual landmark steeped in tradition and cultural significance. The presiding deity, Goddess Bhadrakali, is worshipped alongside numerous sub-deities including Ganapathi, Shiva, Parvathi, Vishnu, Ayyappan, Subrahmanya, Durga, and Veerabhadra. A distinctive feature is the shrine dedicated to Judge Ammavan, a unique installation found nowhere else, where lawyers, judges, and litigants seek divine intervention in legal matters through coconut offerings. The temple's origins trace back approximately 1100 years, when according to legend, Goddess Bhadrakali manifested in the village through the spiritual power of Sree Sankaracharya. Historically, the temple was under the possession of mountain tribes before passing into the hands of various landlords. The sanctuary reflects traditional Kerala architectural style and celebrates major festivals including Thiru Ulsavam during the Malayalam month of Meenam and Navaratri, drawing devotees from across the region.
