Located in Thiruvakkarai village within Villupuram district, Tamil Nadu, this historically significant temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, worshipped as Chandramowleeswarar, with his consort Parvathi venerated as Amirthambigai. The temple showcases Tamilian architectural style and is believed to date from the 10th century Chola period, having received royal patronage from Chola queen Sembiyan Mahadevi. The presiding deity manifests as a rare Mumukha Linga—a three-faced Linga form—making this shrine architecturally and spiritually distinctive. The temple also houses an Atma Linga on the western side of the Kali shrine, known as Kanda Lingam, traditionally worshipped by the demon Vakrasura. Though primarily a Shiva temple, the shrine is particularly renowned for the prominence of Mother Vakrakali, to whom devotees offer prayers for marriage blessings, child welfare, and removal of obstacles. The sacred tree is Vilva, and the temple tank is Surya Pushkarini.
