About Champakesvara Siva Temple

Located in Ambika Sahi within Bhubaneswar's Old Town area of Odisha, this laterite temple dates to the 13th century and stands 157 metres west of the Parasuramesvara temple. The structure features a rekha-order vimana and apidha deul jagamohana characteristic of Kalingan architecture. Local tradition holds that the enshrined Siva lingam is patalaphuta, submerged underground, and that the temple precinct serves as the dwelling place of nagas, particularly the champa naga, from which the deity Champakesvara derives its name. Devotees believe these serpents inhabiting the temple grounds do not cause harm to visitors. The temple observes significant festivals including Shivaratri, Jalasayi, Rudrabhiseka, and Sankranti, while also hosting life-cycle rituals such as thread ceremonies, birthday celebrations, and marriage engagements.
