Bijethua Mahavir
About Bijethua Mahavir
The temple's significance rests on its association with events from the Ramayana. According to the tradition preserved here, Lord Hanuman encountered and defeated the demon Kalanemi at this location while on his urgent mission to bring the Sanjivani. The demon had been stationed by Ravana to obstruct Hanuman's work, but was overcome at this site.
The narrative extends to the sacred ponds within the temple grounds. Makari Kund, situated near the temple, is believed to be where Hanuman bathed during his journey. Local accounts describe how, while bathing, a female crocodile (magari) revealed to Hanuman that Kalanemi was not a saint but a demon in disguise. This detail, preserved in the temple's oral tradition, adds a layer of specificity to the broader Ramayana narrative.
The Temple Grounds and Sacred Ponds
The temple complex contains multiple sacred water features. Beyond Makari Kund, there is also Hatya Haran Kund within the premises. These ponds form an essential part of the pilgrimage experience and the temple's spiritual geography. The presence of these water bodies connects the site to the natural landscape and the journey narrative central to Hanuman's mission.
The temple is also notable for the numerous bells installed throughout its premises. Devotees ring these bells as part of their worship practice, with the intention of fulfilling wishes and expressing devotion. This practice reflects a common form of engagement found in many Hindu temples, where the act of ringing bells accompanies prayer and supplication.
Visiting Hours and Best Times
The temple is open daily from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM. On Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays, the temple opens earlier at 3:00 AM to accommodate early morning devotees. Tuesdays and Saturdays are considered the most auspicious days for worship and darshan, and these days typically see larger gatherings of pilgrims.
Visitors planning their trip should note these extended hours on weekends and Mondays, which may be relevant for those traveling from a distance. The early morning opening on certain days aligns with traditional practices of dawn worship common in Hindu temples.
