About Ariyalai Siddhivinayakar Temple

The Ariyalai Siddhivinayakar Temple, also known as Sithivinayakar Kovil, stands as an ancient Hindu shrine positioned approximately 100 metres west of the A9 Road, roughly 5 kilometres from Jaffna Town in Sri Lanka's Eastern Province. The temple is believed to date to the Chola Dynasty period and exemplifies traditional Hindu architectural design with its closed square mandapa foundation featuring two stories, an open upper hall supported by numerous pillars, and four shrines dedicated to various Hindu deities including Shiva, Vinayaka, Vishnu and Ganesha. The structure is renowned for its intricate stone carvings depicting Hindu gods and goddesses, along with ancient inscriptions estimated to be over 400 years old. The temple underwent significant rehabilitation around 1918 under the stewardship of Advocate Arulampalam. It has attracted distinguished visitors throughout history and remains an important pilgrimage center drawing thousands of devotees annually, particularly those seeking blessings from Lord Ganesha, known locally as Ariyalai Sithivinayakar.
