Adhi Ratneswarar Temple
About Adhi Ratneswarar Temple
Located in Tiruvadanai within Ramanathapuram District, this sacred Dravidian-architecture temple enshrines Lord Shiva in the form of Adhi Ratneswarar. According to temple tradition, the shrine's name connects to the mythological legend of Vaaruni, who sought redemption through worship after receiving a curse from sage Durvasa. The temple complex features six spiritually significant sacred water sources: Surya Pushkarini, Varuna, Vaaruni, Markandeya, Aghasthya, and Kamadenu theerthams. The Somaskanda installation is traditionally attributed to Arjuna's devotion. The temple celebrates major festivals throughout the year including Vaikasi Visakam, Arudra Darshan, monthly Pradosham observances, and Navarathri festivities.
