About Tirukkazhippalai Palvannanathar Temple
Located in Sivapuri within Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu, this ancient Hindu temple enshrines Lord Shiva in the form of Palvannanathar, whose name derives from the deity's radiant golden complexion. The presiding goddess is Vedanayaki. According to temple lore, Sage Kapila consecrated the primary lingam at this site after witnessing cattle spill milk upon the sand, which transformed into golden dust through divine blessing. The temple features a distinctive three-tiered Rajagopuram and houses multiple shrines dedicated to various deities including Surya, Vinayaka, Subramanya, Mahavishnu, and the Navagrahas. The sanctum contains a unique Suyambu Lingam with a small lingam and trunk-like structure resembling a gaja kesari. The temple is recognized as a Paadal Petra Sthalam, having been revered in the seventh-century Tamil Saiva canonical work Tevaram by the nayanmars.
